What cork is.

  • Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus suber).
  • It is harvested by stripping the bark by hand; the tree is not cut down.
  • The bark regrows, and the same tree is harvested again after roughly nine years.
  • Offcuts can be ground into granules and re-bonded into new cork products.
